Stress Myocardial Perfusion Scan

Also Known As : [Stress Myocardial Perfusion Scan][Nuclear Stress Test]

The stress myocardial perfusion scan (MPS) is a diagnostic test that evaluates blood flow to the heart muscle. It involves injecting a radioactive tracer into a vein and performing a stress test to increase the heart’s workload. A special camera detects the tracer in the heart muscle and takes images. These images reveal areas with inadequate blood flow, indicating possible coronary artery blockages. The test helps diagnose and assess the severity of coronary artery disease.

Test Preparation :Patients should fast for at least four hours before the test and avoid caffeine and nicotine for at least 24 hours before the test.
